Argentina's Pampa Energia unveils 140-MW wind farm in Buenos Aires
Sep 18, 2024 15:27 CESTArgentina added 74.6 MW of new renewable energy capacity to its grid during the third quarter, the energy secretariat said on Thursday.
Between July and September, two wind farms and one landfill biogas thermal power plant started commercial operation in Buenos Aires province. The wind farms are the 51.6-MW Buena Ventura and the 18-MW Vivorata. The San Martin Norte III biogas plant provided the remaining 5 MW.
At the end of the third quarter, Argentina had 5,525 MW of installed renewables capacity generated by 205 operational power plants across the country.
The energy secretariat added that it has instructed Argentine wholesale electricity market administrator CAMMESA to regard hydroelectric plants of all sizes as renewables in its official documents. Previously, only hydroelectric stations of below 50 MW were considered renewable.
“Hydroelectric energy, born in the 19th century, is the oldest of the renewable energy sources and is still the most important quantitatively on a global scale," energy secretary Flavia Royon wrote in her note to CAMMESA.
