The Argentine government on Monday awarded 259.08 MW of renewable energy capacity under round 3 of its renewable energy programme, RenovAR.

A total of 38 projects were selected in the tender, also known as MiniRen as it targeted smaller schemes that will connect to medium- and low-voltage networks. Overall, the awarded projects represent together USD 368 million (EUR 328.48m) in investments, and enough power to meet the demand of 250,000 local homes.

More details on the MiniRen tender can be seen in the table below.

Source Number of projects Capacity Weighted average price per MWh
Wind 10 128.70 MW USD 58.04
Solar 13 96.75 MW USD 57.58
Biomass 2 8.5 MW USD 106.15
Biogas 6 12.75 MW USD 158.57
Landfill biogas 1 5 MW USD 129.50
Small hydro 6 7.38 MW USD 103.44

Spain's Elawan Energy Developments SL was the biggest winner after nine of its wind projects were awarded an off-take contract.

There are 12 projects for 62.75 MW of capacity that were qualified to participate in the final round, but were not awarded a contract. The government has invited their developers to enter into a renewable energy supply contract but for a minimum awarded price for their technology.

After completing this round, Argentina has now awarded 6,300 MW of renewable energy capacity under the RenovAR programme.
