Argentina, CAF to collaborate on biomass

Feb 3, 2014 - Argentina's government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andean Development Corp (CAF) on Friday to jointly work on local development of biomass energy generation.

Argentina's Probiomasa programme is managed by the federal planning and agriculture ministries, with assistance from the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The programme should increase thermal energy and electricity production from biomass, ensure a growing offer of competitive energy and stimulate regional development, the federal planning ministry said.

Simultaneously, CAF will provide assistance for a Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) that aims at reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of Probiomasa. Argentina wants to define the baseline for the measurement of emission reduction, the method for monitoring, report and verification, analyses and financial schemes.
