Argentina on Tuesday signed the final five contracts awarded under round 1.5 of its renewable energy programme, RenovAr, the Ministry of Energy and Mines said.

The contracts are for five solar projects with a combined capacity of 72.5 MW located in the province of Mendoza. Argentina has in this way completed the signing of contracts for all 59 projects in rounds 1 and 1.5 of the programme. Of these projects, 26 are under construction and five are already in operation, the ministry said.

The final five projects in Mendoza, of Empresa Mendocina de Energia SA (EMESA), include the 17.6-MW Lavalle, 22-MW Lujan de Cuyo, 14.1-MW La Paz, 1.2-MW PASIP and 17.6-MW General Alvear solar parks. Their timeframes for starting operations range from 12 to 30 months. The prices were recalculated in line with an option provided to the developers to take into account a national component computation regime. The price for four of the projects, originally awarded at USD 55 (EUR 45.8) per MWh, has been changed to USD 48.75 per MWh, and of the remaining one to USD 47.25 per MWh from USD 52 per MWh.
