Argentina's biodiesel output rises 56.8% Y/Y in Jan-Oct 2010 - IES

(ADPnews) - Dec 15, 2010 - Argentina's biodiesel output totalled 1.5 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2010, up 56.8% on the year, local energy consultancy IES said in a report yesterday.
The country exported 76.7% of the output. Thus, its biodiesel exports rose 22.4% to 1.12 million tonnes.
Argentina has an installed capacity to produce annually 1.8 million tonnes of biodiesel. The capacity could be expanded to 2.5 million tonnes a year in 2011, IES said, adding that this would guarantee the domestic supply and would maintain a surplus for exports.
However, the recent regulatory interference in the domestic biodiesel market is freezing some investments in new plants, the consultancy warned.
The government has not updated the domestic biodiesel prices since September 2010.
