Argentina raises cap on renewable self-consumption to 12 MW
Sep 04, 2024 12:11 CESTArgentine power company Genneia on Monday announced an investment of USD 250 million (EUR 232.8m) dedicated to building two solar farms in the province of Mendoza, western central Argentina.
These projects will increase Genneia's current installed renewables capacity, which stands at 1,004 MW of operational wind and solar, and enable the company to maintain its growth momentum in Argentina’s MATER green energy marketplace for large electricity consumers.
The two Mendoza solar farms will have a combined installed capacity of 273 MW, making them the first large-scale projects in the province, according to Genneia. Furthermore, the projects accompany the Mendoza government’s efforts to diversify production and develop an energy transition strategy that goes hand in hand with mining developments, Genneia said.
The company will allocate USD 90 million to build a 93-MW solar farm in the Malargue department. This plant will feature more than 160,000 solar modules occupying an area of 312 hectares (771 acres).
The second project is the 180-MW Anchoris development, situated in the department of Lujan de Cuyo and requiring an investment of USD 16 million. The solar farm will have nearly 360,000 modules installed on a 395-hectare property.
Genneia will carry out the projects in 2024 and 2025.
