Argentina raises cap on renewable self-consumption to 12 MW
Sep 04, 2024 12:11 CESTArgentine power producer Pampa Energia on Tuesday inaugurated a 140-MW wind farm in Buenos Aires province, unveiling its fifth such facility in the South American country.
The project, Parque Eolico Pampa Energia VI (PEPE VI), involved an investment of USD 260 million (EUR 233.6m). Pampa Energia used the money to install 31 wind turbines and build a transformer station and an 8-kilometre (4.97 miles) long extra high-voltage line. According to the company, PEPE VI is the first wind farm in Argentina to be connected to a 500-kV transmission line.
The new wind farm online enabled Pampa Energia to reach 427 MW of installed wind power capacity. The company currently has four PEPEs in Buenos Aires province -- PEPE II, III, IV and VI total 327 MW -- and the 100-MW Arauco II wind farm in La Rioja province.
Apart from wind, Pampa Energia also operates nine thermal power plants and three hydroelectric stations.
