Argentine cement and energy group PCR SA, formerly Petroquimica Comodoro Rivadavia, has brought online three new wind farms totalling 198 MW in Argentina, one of which it invested in alongside steel producer ArcelorMittal Acindar.

The wind farms are the 112.5-MW San Luis Norte in San Luis Province, the 49.5-MW Vivorata and the 36-MW Mataco III in Buenos Aires Province.

PCR said that raising a total of 44 wind turbines across the three projects represented an investment of USD 370 million (EUR 348.5m).

Mataco III is part of a larger wind power complex known as San Jorge-El Mataco. With the new addition, the total installed capacity of the complex has risen to 239.4 MW, making it the largest wind power facility in Buenos Aires Province, PCR said.

The San Luis Norte wind farm is a joint project of ArcelorMittal Acindar and PCR. It features 25 wind turbines, eight of which cleared to start commercial operation, the steel producer said in a separate announcement.

San Luis Norte is also set to become a large-scale generation complex, totalling 112.5 MW of wind power and 18 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity. The entire facility will produce electricity for ArcelorMittal Acindar’s industrial sites in Argentina.

As for PCR, the group says it now operates six wind farms with a combined generation capacity of 527.4 MW, which accounts for 15% of the total wind power generation in Argentina.
