Argentine fertiliser producer Profertil has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with YPF Luz to buy additional wind energy for its operations, the companies said last week.

The PPA will run for ten years, during which YPF Luz will supply 95 GWh annually from the 155-MW General Levalle wind farm. For Profertil, the procurement will ensure its granulated urea plant meets 100% of its electricity needs, the press release reads.

YPF Luz is currently supplying Profertil with electricity from the Los Teros and Manantiales Behr wind farms in line with a PPA signed in 2018. That PPA is the source of 60% of Profertil’s electricity needs.

At present, YPF Luz has three operational wind farms in Argentina -- Manantiales Behr, Los Teros and Canadon Leon. The construction of General Levalle was announced in February this year.

YPF Luz is the power generation arm of Argentine majority state-owned oil-and-gas company YPF SA (BCBA:YPFD), which is also a shareholder of Profertil.
