French chemicals company Arkema SA (EPA:AKE) has sealed renewable power agreements in the US for 152 GWh per year to cover about 40% of its local electricity demand.

The company has signed contracts with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), energy company Entergy, and climate solutions provider 3Degrees, according to a statement published Monday.

TVA and Entergy are expected to supply an estimated 35 GWh and 60 GWh of solar electricity per year, respectively, while 3Degrees will provide green e-certified renewable electricity certificates for the decarbonisation of around 57 GWh.

The contracted renewable power will benefit Arkema’s sites in Calvert City, Kentucky, Beaumont, Texas, Chatham, Virginia, and West Chester, Pennsylvania, as well as all of the US sites of speciality adhesives subsidiary Bostik.

The deals come as part of the French group’s decarbonisation goal to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 48.5% by 2030 versus 2019.

As part of this strategy, Arkema reached an agreement in December to buy 20 GWh of solar electricity per year from the renewables arm of French power company EDF.
