Armenia eyes increased solar capacity - report

Jan 25, 2012 - Armenia's Ministry for Economy is seeking to bolster the country's installed solar power capacity, news agency ARKA said, citing Robert Arutyunyan, Director General of the Armenian Development Agency.

According to the report, the government will rely on the support of sector specialists from the Netherlands, details of which were not provided.

Armenia has huge solar power potential with an average annual solar radiation on horizontal surface of some 1,720 kWh per sq m and 2,500 sunny hours a year. For comparison, Europe's average solar radiation is 1,000 kWh per sq m.
