Armenia to announce winners in 55-MW solar tender this spring - report Sun-lit Yerevan. Author: Matthias Ripp.

Armenia will announce the winning proposals for the development of an up to 55-MW solar project in the country this spring, a government official said.

Speaking at a pre-tender conference, Hayk Harutyunyan, deputy energy infrastructures and natural resources minister, was cited as saying by local media that 10 international companies and one consortium have entered the pre-qualifying stage of the tender. The process had attracted a total of 20 participants.

The selected applicants will now take part in a tariff competition for the construction of the first photovoltaic (PV) park in Armenia near the village of Masrik, Gegharkunik province. Construction of the Masrik-1 facility, with a capacity of between 45 MW and 55 MW, will be launched by the end of this year with the goal to commission the plant by 2020.

According to preliminary estimates, the PV scheme will require an investment of between USD 40 million (EUR 32m) and USD 60 million, Arka News Agency writes.

The 55-MW solar project is part of a government investment strategy for the addition of up to 110 MW of PV capacity at six locations across Armenia.
