Japanese technology company Asahi Kasei Corp (TYO:3407) has teamed up with Italian electrolysers maker Industrie De Nora (BIT:DNR) to develop small-scale containerised alkaline water electrolysers for sale to the global market.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to outline their partnership, Asahi Kaisei said in a press statement. Under the pact, the duo will focus on the joint development, study, evaluation and sale of containerised electrolysis units with capacities ranging from 1 MW to 7.5 MW. Apart from manufacturing, they will offer technical support and after-sale solutions.

Asahi Kaisei and De Nora, which is currently building a gigafactory at home, already have experience in the chlor-alkali electrolysis field and expect to achieve synergies with the new initiative. They aim to respond to the growing demand for green hydrogen and take advantage of the need for “compact production systems with reduced costs, installation space and delivery time.”
