Ascent Solar gets contract facilitating US govt purchases of its products

US flexible thin-film solar specialist Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI) has been awarded a Schedule 56 contract that enables US government customers to easily buy a range of the company's products such as portable solar chargers.

The contract, granted by the procurement division of the US federal government, begins on December 15, 2015, Ascent Solar said this week.

"Ascent's GSA Schedule 56 contract unlocks a large and previously untapped potential revenue opportunity," Rafael Gutierrez, senior vice president and COO, said and added that while the military applications for Ascent's solar products were numerous, there were also many other applications such as disaster relief or use by the US Forest Service.

The Schedule 56 contract identifies the recipient as a preferred vendor for the federal government and one which is authorized to conduct commercial operations directly with federal agencies.
