Aspiravi Offshore, part of Belgian renewable energy company Aspiravi Group, has acquired compatriot Parkwind NV’s stake in the 216-MW Northwind offshore wind farm off the coast of Belgium in the North Sea.

The transaction announced on Tuesday has lifted Aspiravi’s ownership in the project to 70% and marks Parkwind’s exit from the consortium. Financial details about the deal were kept under wraps.

Aspiravi Offshore, which previously owned 40% of Northwind’s stock, has exercised its pre-emption rights over the Northwind shares held by Parkwind and has bought a further 30% from the Belgian firm owned by Japanese utility Jera Co Inc. Meanwhile, Sumitomo Corporation has not exercised such rights and kept its 30% in Northwind.

Located on the Lodewijk Bank around 37 km (23 mi) off the coast within the Belgian economic zone of the North Sea, the Northwind park is equipped with 72 Vestas turbines that have been generating electricity since 2014. The plant’s annual generation is equal to the electricity consumption of 250,000 homes.
