Solar panel maker Astronergy, part of China’s Chint Group, said on Tuesday that it has received orders to supply 1 GW of its n-type TOPCon solar modules for projects in Algeria, backing the country’s 2,000-MW photovoltaic construction plan.

The contracts were awarded by China International Water & Electric Corp (CWE) and the Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), which will build six solar plants in Algeria.

The projects are part of the country’s 2,000-MW plan, which involves the establishment of 15 solar facilities each with a capacity ranging between 80 MW and 220 MW. According to the statement, most of the projects will be constructed by Chinese companies.

CWE and POWERCHINA, in particular, will develop the 80-MW Abadla, 220-MW Batemete, 200-MW Gueltet Sidi Saad, 200-MW Douar El Maa, 80-MW Ouled Djellal, and 220-MW Biskra PV plants.

Biskra alone is expected to generate 400 million kWh of clean electricity annually, saving 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The construction works have already begun.
