Belgium-based renewables investor and developer Aukera Energy said today that it has secured approval from the Scottish Government to build a 45-MW solar farm with a 40-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Ayrshire.

The positive outcome for the Loch Fergus project came after detailed consultation with the local community and key experts within the various councils and decision makers, the company noted in a press statement.

The Loch Fergus scheme is jointly developed by Aukera and Locogen and is expected to become operational in 2026. Once commissioned, the solar farm is expected to generate about 57 GWh of clean energy annually, an amount equivalent to powering more than 13,600 local homes.

Founded in 2021, Aukera specialises in solar, wind and battery storage projects. The company is currently developing 16,059 MW of renewable energy projects.

In May, the Brussels-based firm bought a ready-to-build 39-MWp solar project in Essex, UK from developer BOOM Power. The acquired Crays Hall site is expected to go live in late 2025.
