A 30-MW photovoltaic (PV) module production facility near Batna in Algeria has been inaugurated by Aures Solaire, in which French industrial group Vincent Industrie holds 49%.

The plant in the Ain Yagout industrial area will produce 125,000 solar panels annually. Prime minister Abdelmalek Sellal was at the site on Monday to celebrate the completion of the factory.

Aures Solaire is a 51/49 joint venture between Algerian firm Condor Electronics and Vincent Industrie. It completed the PV module plant project at a time when the Algerian government is preparing to call tenders for over 4 GW of solar projects, with plans for local content requirement provisions.

Algeria had about 382 MW of operational solar power generation capacity at the end of 2016, according to a report by the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA). It will seek developers for a number of 100-MW-plus projects in different regions of the country under the upcoming tenders.
