Australian telecommunications company Telstra Group Ltd (ASX:TLS) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to procure electricity from a 260-MW solar farm in New South Wales, it said.

The PPA will support the Glenellen solar farm located 16 kilometres (9.9 miles) north of the city of Albury. Construction of the project is underway, Telstra said.

Once Glenellen goes online, 50% of its output, or around 210 GWh annually, will be credited to Telstra.

The Glenellen solar project is owned by Global Power Generation (GPG), through its Australian unit. GPG is the international arm of Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY).

Telstra previously signed a PPA for GPG’s Bundaberg solar project in Queensland. Overall, Glenellen is the seventh renewable energy PPA for the telecom group.
