Austria has launched a EUR 17.9 million (USD 19.3m) funding call for energy storage systems with a net capacity in the range of 51 kWh to 1 MWh.

Funding is provided for the construction or expansion of energy storage systems for existing renewable energy generation installations, the Climate and Energy Fund said on Wednesday.

As much as EUR 10 million of the total is provided by the Ministry for Climate Action (BMK) and the remainder is co-financed by the EU with funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

In addition to individuals, eligible applicants include production, commercial, and service companies, energy firms, public institutions, contractors, and energy communities.

The funding initiative targets investors seeking to optimise on-site energy consumption from their PV systems and thereby contribute to stabilising the power grid. A corporation or group of companies can submit up to five projects as part of this campaign.

The tender is open until February 28, 2025 as long as budget funds are available. The systems must be completed no later than 24 months after the funding is approved.
