Austrian energy services provider mthpower services gmbh is proposing to build two solar parks in central Iran totalling 40 MW within the next two years, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

The company’s plan envisages the construction of two photovoltaic (PV) parks with capacities of 10 MW and 30 MW, respectively, in Iran’s Yazd province, investing EUR 40 million (USD 49.7m) in total. The details have been confirmed by Martin Thomas, managing director of mthpower.

The central Iranian province, which enjoys 10 hours of sunlight per day on average, has attracted 30 solar investors, according to provincial official Hossein Dashti. Land for 17 projects has been secured, he said, as cited by IRNA.

Iran’s government has set an objective to install 5,000 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2020 and an additional 2,500 MW by 2030. Last week, Iran’s Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) and Italy-based real estate and renewable energy group Carlo Maresca SpA signed a contract to jointly build a 100-MW solar park near Iran’s capital.
