Swiss energy trader Axpo Holding AG said on Thursday that it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to off-take every kilowatt-hour of renewable energy generated by RWE AG (ETR:RWE) in Poland.

Touting the PPA as one of the largest renewable energy off-take deals in Poland, Axpo said that it will receive approximately 1,500 GWh of electricity annually from RWE’s wind and solar farms across the country.

The combined installed capacity of these farms is 628 MW. The route-to-market PPA, signed between Axpo’s and RWE’s Polish units, covers their entire annual output.

The agreement is expected to significantly strengthen Axpo's position as a leading independent off-taker of green energy in the Polish market. And it is a further boon to the German energy major, which recently said that its wind and solar energy business generated more than half of its adjusted EBITDA during the first semester of 2024.

“RWE is among the largest producers of green electricity in Poland thanks to our growing portfolio of renewable assets. With Axpo on our side the green electricity produced by our wind and solar fleet will be efficiently marketed -- a win-win for the Polish energy transition,” commented Robert Macias, member of the board at RWE Renewables Poland.
