Swiss renewable energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG unveiled a plan to build a 15-MWp ground-mounted alpine solar plant in Switzerland.

The site, dubbed Ovra Solara Camplauns, will be based in the municipality of Ilanz/Glion in the canton of Graubünden and will span around 200,000 square metres (2.15 million sq ft), according to a statement released on Tuesday.

The solar farm will be designed to generate about 22 GWh of electricity annually, an amount enough to power more than 4,700 households. The land beneath the panels will continue to be usable as pasture.

The project was already presented to the local Ilanz/Glion community and a vote on it will be scheduled in the next few months. When the go-ahead is granted, Axpo will finalise the project planning. The Swiss firm expects to start construction works in the spring of 2025 with commissioning planned to begin at the end of the same year.

About a couple of weeks ago, Axpo, in partnership with power distributor EWS AG, said it intends to build a 9-MWp ground-mounted solar power system as the first alpine plant in the canton of Schwyz.
