Swiss renewable energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG said on Monday that it will carry out a preliminary evaluation for a potential wind farm of up to six turbines in the Swiss Alps.

Axpo intends to build the facility in the mountain resort area Flumserberg in the canton of St. Gallen. The wind park is expected to generate electricity sufficient to meet the needs of 10,000 households.

As part of the assessment process, the company will install a wind measurement mast in September to collect data over a 12-month period. The mast will gather information on wind speed and direction at various altitudes. Additionally, bat activity will be monitored to assess the potential impact of the wind farm on wildlife.

The local Flums-Dorf community and Mols Alpine Corporation have both approved the erection of the wind measurement mast.

Axpo previously developed in collaboration with utility IWB Switzerland's biggest alpine solar farm with a capacity of 2.2 MW and a production output of 3.3 GWh per year.
