Swiss renewable energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG has signed a deal to supply Austrian polyolefins producer Borealis AG with more than 900 GWh of wind power for its operations in Belgium.

The companies have signed two separate power purchase agreements (PPAs), which will run until the end of 2030 and end of 2035, respectively. Power deliveries to the chemicals company will begin in 2026, Axpo said on Thursday.

The contracted electricity volumes will be sourced from Vleemo nv, a Flemish energy company focused on wind power generation, which owns wind turbines located on the banks of the river Scheldt in the port of Antwerp.

The PPAs will allow Borealis to lower its Scope 2 emissions by roughly 155,000 tonnes over 10 years and back its goal of 100% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. The latest contracts add to a bundle of long-term off-take deals that the chemicals group signed with Axpo over the past four years, including in Belgium, Sweden and Finland. The last one of these was signed in February and covers the procurement of 125 GWh of onshore wind power for Borealis' Belgian and Swedish activities.
