Swiss energy producer and trader Axpo Holding AG on Friday announced a plan to install a 30-MWp ground-mounted solar farm in the Alps of Switzerland.

The Ovra Solara Rueun solar farm would be built on the Alp da Rueun mountain, where it would cover an area of around 500,000 square metres (5.38 million sq ft), according to the plan. Axpo said it would ensure that its alpine solar power facility coexists harmoniously with other activities on the mountain, such as hiking and skiing.

The exact location of the Ovra Solara Rueun project is the Ilanz/Glion municipality, Graubuenden Canton. That municipality will also host Axpo’s 15-MWp Ovra Solara Camplauns alpine solar project, which the company announced in September this year.

Residents of the Ilanz/Glion municipality will vote on both projects in the coming weeks. If the vote is positive and Axpo obtains a building permit, construction will begin in spring 2025. Partial commissioning of the alpine plants can be expected by late 2025.
