Sweden-based solar thermal power specialist Azelio AB has signed a pact that marks the first step towards the introduction of its technology in Pakistan, the company announced on Tuesday.

Azelio has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with local solar projects developer JD Aviation Sourcing & Engineering Services (Private) Ltd to look into the possibility of replacing parts of the expensive backup systems in Pakistan with sustainable distributed electricity baseload.

Gothenburg-based Azelio, previously known as Cleanergy, has developed and offers a system of Stirling engine-based concentrated solar power (CSP) with thermal energy storage. This technology, as stated by JD Aviation CEO Jalal Uddin Sadiq, can help avoid costly battery systems and eliminate diesel generators in Pakistan.

The MoU is a chance for Azelio to build up resources and get ready for each aspect of its business dealings in Pakistan, from sales to deliveries and aftermarket, it noted.
