Saudi Arabia, Bahrain explore 2 GW solar project - report
Aug 30, 2024 12:04 CESTThe Kingdom of Bahrain, through its Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs, has launched a competitive bidding process to select a company or a consortium to install at least 72 MW of solar power generating capacity across multiple premises in Sakhir.
The ministry announced in a statement that it seeks to deploy photovoltaic (PV) panels on both rooftops and land, car park shades and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for the Bahrain International Circuit, University of Bahrain, Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre and Al Dana Amphitheatre.
In order to qualify for this tender, interested parties need to have successfully commissioned a minimum of ten grid-connected solar power systems, at least half of which on car parks, and to have completed at least 40 MW of grid-tied solar projects anywhere in the world over the past three years.
The tender was launched on August 17 and will run through October 16, 2022. The awarded contract will have a term of 20 years.
Bahrain has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2060.
