Bahrain's Solar One opens 15-MW panel factory

Bahraini-run company Solar One has opened its first factory at home for the production of solar panels, Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority announced on Sunday.

The new facility is starting operations with the capacity to manufacture up to 60,000 solar panels annually, which is enough to produce 15 MW of power, Solar One general director Rami Khalifa said. The whole factory will be developed in three phases, he added.

The country’s electricity and water affairs minister, Abdulhussain Mirza, took part in the opening ceremony. According to him, Bahrain will set a goal for renewables to meet 6% of energy demand by 2025. In addition to helping achieve sustainable development objectives, this would also diversify the country’s energy mix and attract new international investments and technology.
