Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CEST(ADPnews) - Apr 29, 2011 - Canadian clean energy fuel cell company Ballard Power Systems (TSE:BLD) said on Thursday that it was selling a 1 MW fuel cell generator to Toyota (TYO:7203) for its US sales and marketing headquarters in Torrance, California.
Ballard's CLEARgen(TM) fuel cell system will provide peak electricity and heat to the campus property and will be powered from renewable biogas generated at a landfill.
Michael Goldstein, chief commercial officer at the Canadian company, said that the agreement highlighted the "attractiveness of fuel cell power generation solutions for large-scale needs".
The system is expected to help reduce peak grid power consumption and eliminate up to 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Heat generated by the system will be used to supply hot water and heating in some premises, resulting in the avoidance of a further up to 28 tons of emissions a year.
Ballard expects the system to be commissioned next year. California's Self-Generation Incentive Program is providing project financing.
