Kenyan cement maker Bamburi Cement Plc has signed several agreements with independent power producer (IPP) MOMNAI Energy Limited to kick off the construction of 19.5 MW of solar plants at its factories in Kenya.

Bamburi Cement said it has signed the land lease agreement, connection facilities agreement, conditions precedence satisfaction, and construction start date letters, after previously signing the power purchase agreement (PPA) with the IPP.

The latest agreements will launch the installation of a 14.5-MW solar farm at Bamburi Cement’s Mombasa plant and a 5-MW system at its Athi River site. The new solar is expected to account for up to 30% of Bamburi Cement’s total power supply, the company said.

Bamburi Cement is part of Swiss building materials group Holcim AG (SIX:HOLN).
