A tender has been launched in Bangladesh for the construction of up to 60 MW of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) parks in the southeastern district of Chattogram.

The competitive bidding process was initiated by Bangladesh’s Power Development Board (BPDB), which seeks to find developers for between 50 MW and 60 MW of projects. Interested parties will be able to submit bids by March 14, BPDB said in the tender notice.

Each candidate will be able to submit only one bid, either as a company or as part of a consortium. The selected projects will be developed on a build, own operate (BOO) basis for a period of 20 years, with developers required to secure the needed financing for their projects.

The government of Bangladesh has set a target for the country to produce 10% of its power from renewable energy sources by 2021. At present, the nation is highly dependent on natural gas for power generation. Both the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank last year committed to provide financing for renewable energy projects in the country, among which off-grid solar.
