A 35-MW solar park, supported by a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has begun commercial operation in Bangladesh, local news provider The Daily Star reported on Sunday.

The facility has been feeding electricity into the grind since March, the country head of Chinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd (SHE:300274) was cited as saying. Sungrow served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project and has also set up a local unit to operate as project developer, according to Imran Chowdhury.

The 35-MW project, located in Paturia, Manikgonj District, some 85 kilometres (52.8 miles) of the nation’s capital of Dhaka, is owned by Spectra Solar Park Ltd, which is a partnership between Bangladesh-based Spectra Engineers Ltd and China’s Shunfeng Investments Ltd. As an independent power producer (IPP) it will sell power to the Bangladesh Power Development Board over 20 years at BDT 11.12 (USD 0.13/EUR 0.11) per kWh, according to the article.

While over 20 IPP projects have been awarded to private companies, this is among the first to come online in the country, says The Daily Star.
