The UAE will support the construction of a 100-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park in Bangladesh under a pact signed in the weekend.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the project was sealed by Khaled Mahmud, chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Sheikh Ahmed Dalmud Al Makhtom, member of the UAE ruling family. The pact is one of four agreements signed in Abu Dhabi on Sunday during the visit of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the UAE concerning projects for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, ports and an industrial park and a special economic zone in Bangladesh.

The solar deal follows a tender announcement from last week in which Bangladesh invited proposals for the installation of up to 60 MW of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in Chattogram district. The initiative supports the nation’s goal to produce 10% of its power from renewable energy sources by 2021.
