Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTJun 13, 2013 - The government of Barbados will soon announce new legislation aimed at supporting the use of renewable energy, Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation said Tuesday, citing energy minister Darcy Boyce.
According to Boyce, the government of the island country is expected to pass new laws for independent power producers in the following few months after holding consultations with local utility Barbados Light and Power (BL&P).
As part of its renewable programme, Barbados will start a project for retrofitting public buildings as well as launch energy efficiency projects that will see government buildings equipped with rooftop solar power facilities. Some of the initiatives have received funding from Global Environmental Facility and the European Union (EU), he added.
