The government of Bavaria will provide EUR 10 million (USD 11.08m) to support the building of a network of hydrogen filling stations for commercial vehicles across the state.

The financing will be provided as part of a programme meant to fund the construction of filling stations for hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, buses and special vehicles in Bavaria. The scheme supports also the purchase of up to three hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, buses and special vehicles or the conversion of conventional vehicles to run on hydrogen. The use of on-site electrolysers for hydrogen production is also in the scope of the project.

Interested investors can submit their applications with Bayern Innovativ, which is responsible for the scheme, by the end of March, the state government said on Wednesday on its website.

Bavaria already has nearly 20 hydrogen filling stations and a further six are currently under construction with state support. The state is in urgent need to massively expand the network of filling stations in order to enable the large-scale use of hydrogen in view of the energy crisis and the dependence on Russian gas, according to state energy minister Hubert Aiwanger.
