German renewables company BayWa r.e. AG announced today that it has completed work on a couple of solar clusters totalling 136 MWp, built on two former military bases in central and southwestern France.

Designed to allow sheep farming, the two clusters include a total of five solar farms spanning a combined 151 hectares. The sites are equipped with more than 300,000 panels and each cluster will now produce 82 GWh of solar power annually.

The former La Martinerie military base near Chateauroux in the central part of the country housed two of the facilities. The 70-MWp duo will have an annual output that is enough to meet the needs of 38,000 citizens.

The other three plants -- Fontenet I, II and III, are located on the former Fontenet military base in Charente-Maritime and have a combined capacity of 66 MWp. The first two sites within the cluster were completed in 2014 and 2022, respectively, while Fontenet III has just been finalised.
