Off-grid power firms BBOXX and DC Go this week said they plan to partner to serve people without access to reliable electricity in southern Africa, more specifically in Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland.

According to the announcement, there are an estimated 4.6 million people that lack reliable electricity access in these countries.

As part of the partnership, BBOXX will provide its solar home systems and technology platform Pulse to DC Go, which will sell products via a PAYGO model in the region.

The companies target both rural and urban environments, especially informal settlements, where, they said, many people resort to dangerous illegal connections to the grid. According to BBOXX and DC Go solar powered micro-grid technology will be a "safe and sustainable" option for these locations.
