Renewables developer CWP Global has partnered with engineering, construction and project management specialist Bechtel to explore the feasibility of gigawatt-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities in North Africa.

CWP said in a statement that the goal of the new partnership with Bechtel is to provide ongoing conceptual and early planning solutions in choosing optimal integrated configurations for the projects.

"Their [Bechtel’s] technological and scientific expertise will allow us to accelerate the next stage of project development, and keep us on the right track to deliver the first million tons of green hydrogen and ammonia by 2028 [...],” said Alex Hewitt, CWP Global CEO.

According to the announcement, Bechtel Energy Technologies & Solutions (BETS) is expected to make recommendations for a techno-economic implementation plan.

Having successfully developed, financed and built more than 1.5 GW of renewable energy plants in Europe and Australia, CWP is currently working on more than 140 GW of projects intended for the production of green hydrogen and its derivatives on three continents.
