Belarus secures foreign investment for 25-MW wind farm - report

Belarus has secured a foreign investment for the construction of its largest wind farm to date -- a 25-MW project near the village of Veleshkovichi in Vitebsk Oblast, news agency BelTA reports.

The press service of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry has informed BelTA of an agreement dated August 30 for the sale of the pre-investment asset. The deal involves a foreign investment of USD 40 million (EUR 36.6m) and calls for Turkish company Guris Construction and Engineering Co Inc to finance the project.

According to the report, work on the project is planned to start next year. Its output is estimated to meet the annual consumption of more than 20,000 local homes.

Currently, Belarus has 96 wind turbines totalling 100.95 MW in operation.
