Renewables rise and Russian gas declines, says EC report
Sep 12, 2024 11:11 CESTMar 21, 2014 - Belgian solar panels produced record 2,067 MW of power on Thursday, energy company Eneco Belgium said.
Local power grid operator Elia registered the peak production by 1230 CET. It was equivalent to the capacity of two large nuclear plants and was sufficient to cover about 20% of the electricity demand.
The record production was attributable to the increasing number of installations and the sunny weather, Alex Polfliet, chairman of local sector organisation PV Vlaanderen, was cited as saying by Express.be.
Eneco Belgium itself has 140,000 solar panels with a combined capacity of 32 MW. This represents about 1% of Belgium's installed solar capacity.
