A firm owned indirectly by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE:BRK.A) has acquired Transportation Technology Services (TTS), a Texas-based business which specialises in the transportation of wind turbine components.

BNSF Logistics LLC, wholly-owned by Berkshire Hathaway’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC, bought the TTS business to make it its own US rail, project cargo and engineering services division, according to a press release published on Tuesday.

The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

At present, TTS manages a fleet of almost 2,000 rail cars, including about 1,200 equipped with fixtures for the handling of wind turbine components such as blades, tower sections and nacelles.

TTS is not BNSF Logistics’ first investment tied to the wind power industry. Previously, it invested in the Blade Runner technology, which enables handling ever lengthening turbine blades via ocean and rail.
