US anaerobic digestion (AD) specialist Bioenergy Devco (BDC) has raised USD 100 million (EUR 87.97m) in fresh funds which the company plans to use to back the development of AD facilities in North America.

The financing was provided by funds managed by California-based alternative investment manager Irradiant Partners LP.

BDC has built over 240 AD facilities and currently manages 140 plants around the world. In the US, the company has over 20 AD projects under development, including two facilities under construction in Delaware and Maryland.

The facility in Maryland is expected to be the biggest food waste digester in the US, with the capacity to accept over 115,000 tonnes of organic material a year.
