Vistra agrees USD 3.25bn buyout of zero-carbon energy unit
Sep 19, 2024 11:01 CESTAtlantic Power Transmission LLC (APT), a portfolio company of alternative asset manager Blackstone (NYSE:BX), has tied up with energy services company Morrison Energy to engage local workers to produce substation foundation jackets in New Jersey.
Under the agreement, Morrison will set up a base in New Jersey and help APT reach union workers and provide the needed training for the project. The Blackstone portfolio company intends to fabricate 5,000-tonne substation foundation jackets under a plan underpinned by a USD-50-million (EUR 48.8m) workforce development investment over 10 years.
APT will kick off the investment plan when bids are awarded in a state solicitation to develop an offshore wind transmission network to deliver up to 3,600 MW of offshore wind power generation. As part of its proposal, the company has committed to creating about 1,000 jobs and some USD 1.5 billion (EUR 1.1bn) in economic value to New Jersey during the five-year construction period.
The proposed manufacturing facilities will be the first ones on the East Coast, APT said.
“Partnering with Morrison will bring the industry expertise needed for this project and invest in training our local workforce to secure New Jersey’s position as a wind leader for decades to come,” said Andy Geissbuehler, CEO of APT.
