Vineyard Wind LLC, the offshore wind developer currently building the 806-MW Vineyard Wind 1 project in the US, has reported blade damage on a wind turbine in its offshore development area.

The damage occurred on Saturday evening, when no personnel or third parties were in the vicinity of the turbine, the developer, a joint venture between Avangrid Inc (NYSE:AGR) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), said on Monday.

“GE, as the project’s turbine and blade manufacturer and installation contractor, will now be conducting the analysis into the root cause of the incident,” the developer added.

Further details about the damage were not provided.

GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) spokesperson said: “On July 13, a single turbine at the Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm experienced an isolated blade event. No injuries occurred, and GE Vernova’s Wind Fleet Performance Management team have initiated our investigation protocols into the event in coordination with our customer.”

Avangrid recently announced the commissioning of 10 turbines at the Vineyard Wind 1 project off the coast of Massachusetts. The wind farm will have 62 GE Haliade-X turbines of 13 MW each.

Vineyard Wind said that during the analysis it will continue working with federal, state, tribal, and local stakeholders to ensure the health and safety of its workforce, mariners and the environment.
