Bloomberg gets WindMade label for 58% wind power share in US

Oct 10, 2012 - US business news and financial data provider Bloomberg got the WindMade certification label for sourcing from wind farms 58% of the power its US operations use, the WindMade organisation said Tuesday.

Furthermore, another 25% of the company’s electricity come from biomass energy installations.

Under the WindMade standard, which became effective a year ago, companies that want to market products under the WindMade label need to cover at least 25% of their power needs with wind energy. To meet the requirements, a company has to produce the wind energy in its own wind power facility; to have a power purchase agreement for wind power; or to buy Renewable Energy Certificates approved by WindMade. The exact share of wind power in a company's power demand is stated on the label.

Bloomberg was among the businesses and organisations that supported the initiative from its start, along with Danish toy maker Lego, the Global Wind Energy Council, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the UN Global Compact, Danish wind turbine major Vestas (CPH:VWS) and accounting services provider PricewaterhouseCoopers.
