The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on Wednesday announced plans for a campaign to collect public input regarding the potential second regional offshore wind energy sale in the Central Atlantic.

The call for information and nominations will aim to gather feedback on a possible leasing round for areas off the coasts of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. The target zones cover a total of 13,476,805 acres of seabed areas.

The Central Atlantic 2 call is due to commence on August 22 and will start a 60-day public comment period related to the potential auction. Comments will be accepted by October 21.

Once the call closes, BOEM will carry out environmental reviews of the draft wind energy areas (WEAs) and possibly propose a lease sale.

Earlier this month, Equinor Wind US LLC and Virginia Electric and Power Co were announced as the provisional winners of the auction for two lease areas offshore Delaware, Maryland and Virginia in the Central Atlantic offshore wind lease sale. The auction for the two fixed-bottom lease areas was the first in the region in a decade.
