Bolivian government officials, led by president Luis Arce, on Wednesday inaugurated the second 50-MW phase of the Oruro solar farm located in the western department of Oruro.

The project was realised for roughly USD 108.1 million (EUR 89.2m), to which the French government contributed around USD 72.6 million. Bolivian state-owned power corporation Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE) invested USD 21.2 million, while the EU added USD 14.3 million to the total amount, the Bolivian ministry of government said.

The new plant is located in the Caracollo municipality in the community of Ancotanga, where it joins the first 50-MW phase which was delivered in September 2019.

With the second phase, the solar power complex will be capable of fully meeting electricity needs of the entire population of the Oruro department. According to the government, Oruro will be the first department in Bolivia to cover its population's consumption needs with solar energy.
