Bolivian government officials inaugurated last week the 54-MW El Dorado wind farm in the Santa Cruz department, dubbed the largest of its kind in the country.

Located in Cabezas municipality, the project required an investment of BOB 654.1 million (USD 94.7m/EUR 81.8m), the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy said.

Featuring 15 wind turbines with an individual capacity of 3.6 MW and hub height of 120 metres, the asset covers an area of 63.3 hectares (acres).

According to the Bolivian government, El Dorado will help reduce the use of natural gas in the country and offset approximately 97,959 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

In September, Bolivian officials opened the 14.4-MW Warnes and the 39.6-MW San Julian wind parks. Together with El Dorado, the farms are part of the 108-MW Santa Cruz wind megaproject.
