Bolivia to build USD-250m renewable diesel plant Author: Matt P.

The Bolivian government announced on Wednesday it will built a USD-250-million (EUR 207.2m) renewable diesel plant at the Guillermo Elder Bell refinery in Santa Crus department.

According to the minister of hydrocarbons and energies, Franklin Molina, the new facility will have the capacity to produce almost 3 million barrels of renewable diesel annually, or an average of 9,000 barrels per day. It will reuse discarded cooking oils, vegetables and animal fats as raw materials.

The renewable diesel plant will contribute to the change in the country’s energy mix and help save a significant amount of money on diesel imports, the minister claimed.

President Luis Arce Catacora was present during the announcement and stated that this new project is a giant step in Bolivia’s energy sovereignty.
